Automotive Aerodynamics: The role of simulation (online talk)
Venue: Zoom meeting | City: Chelmsford, United Kingdom
Speaker: Dr Adrian Gaylard (Technical Specialist in Computational Aerodynamics, Jaguar Land Rover)
Please note that this talk replaces the previously planned talk on Electric Vehicles.
Ideas about the aerodynamic resistance of objects go back to at least the Renaissance, and the discipline of automotive aerodynamics is approaching 100 years old. Yet, this vibrant field continues to develop with advances in vehicle performance underpinned by developments in both experiment and simulation. This talk will briefly review the history and scope of automotive aerodynamics before examining the role of physical and numerical simulation in drag reduction, aeroacoustics, exterior water management and soiling. The talk will conclude with a reflection on the need for and the challenges involved in bringing more of the "real world" into engineering simulations.
